Reasons for Contacting an Employment Lawyer

You should contact an employment lawyer if you have problems at work, for any number of reasons, including the following:

Redundancy:  Perhaps you believe the selection process is unfair, or your employer is using redundancy as an excuse to get rid of you.  Or maybe your employer has not offered you the amount of redundancy pay that you are legally entitled to.

Dismissal:  Do you believe you are being unfairly dismissed for poor conduct, or performance?  Or has your employer has dismissed you without following the correct disciplinary procedure.

Breach of Employment Rights:  Your employer could have breached your employment rights in one of several ways.  For example, you may feel you have been discriminated against, because of your sex, race, disability, or age.  Or, your employer may be breaching health and safety issues, which are putting you at risk.  Perhaps your employer is ignoring your contractual rights by not paying you holiday pay, bonus/commission, or notice pay.

Your employer is entitled to dismiss you for the following reasons:  misconduct, incapability (because of ill health or incompetence), redundancy, contravention of statute, or another substantial reason.

But you may feel that your employer is using one of these reasons as an excuse to get rid of you, because of other problems.  And if this is the case, you should speak to an employment lawyer, who will go through the issue with you, and show you what facts are needed to support your claim.

For example, you may believe that your employer is trying to get rid of you because of your race.  Or your employer may know, or suspect you are pregnant, and may be trying to avoid paying you maternity leave.
